Orange Jasmine Murraya Paniculata Extremely Flowers Fragrant Live Plant Cutting Orange jasmine is a small, tropical, evergreen tree or shrub that is well suited for hedges. It grows up to 7 m tall. Closely related to citrus, the orange jasmine produces a small white flower that is attractive to bees and other insects. The small resulting fruit is a food source for certain types of birds. Water this sub tropical plant from the Citrus family requires deep watering every 3 to 6 days or once a week for optimum results. However, water more frequently if you live in a hot climate. Whether planted in a pot or in the ground, allow the soil to dry out in between watering because excessive moisture promotes root rot and damages the plant. Fertilizer The orange jasmine only requires fertilizer during its active growth phase. During the first two years of the plant's life, fertilize it once or twice a month (every 3 to 5 weeks) with a fertilizer formulated for evergreen plants. Avoid using fertilizers high in nitrogen, since this may encourage unnecessarily rapid growth, resulting in leaves that are not as strong as they should be. Sunlight The orange jasmine thrives best in full sun, diffused light or partial shade, but it needs protection from direct sunlight, or its leaves may burn. Place your orange jasmine in an area where it will receive full sun in the morning and partial shade in the afternoon, or where there is enough diffused light all day. Note, however, that the plant may not bloom under insufficient light. Pruning Though the orange jasmine is relatively fast growing and easy to shape, it’s best not to over prune the plant only needs a regular light pruning. Pruning helps to keep your plants in good shape, preventing them from looking too bushy and all over the place. Prune once or twice a year to get rid of any dead or damaged branches. Cut back the top growth to maintain your preferred plant height. Lightly prune your plant after flowering to promote increased flowering for the next spring. Temperature The orange jasmine is a hardy and easy-to-maintain plant. Native to Australia and Asia, most species prefer a hot climate, but some varieties can tolerate frost. You can grow it outdoors in the summer in cooler regions, but it must be taken indoors during the winter. The ideal temperature for the orange jasmine is above or around 18 ?, and high humidity is also necessary. It does not like waterlogged soil and prefers a well drained location. Soil The orange jasmine prefers a fertile, well-draining, mildly acidic to neutral soil with a pH between 5 to 7. It has a moderate to high salt tolerance. If your area has heavy or clay soil, it’s best to improve soil structure and drainage for optimum plant growth by adding organic materials, such as leaf mulch, compost, and chopped bark. this plant does not tolerate water logging, so make sure that you allow proper drainage. Planting The orange jasmine can be planted either by seeds or cuttings. You can grow it directly in the ground, pots, or containers. When grown in containers, repotting should only be done when the plant is already big enough for its current container. Be sure not to disturb or damage the roots when transplanting, and always make sure that your planting hole is twice as wide, but the same depth, as your plant's root ball. If growing as a hedge, the ideal plant spacing is about 50 to 80 cm apart. Larger varieties should be planted up to 1 m apart.
