How to Forge a Tomahawk
For Drifted Eye
Step 1: The process used by most blacksmiths involves drilling a series of small holes as close together as possible in the center of the workpiece to be drifted.
Step 2: Once the holes are drilled, the piece is heated and then split with a cold chisel or similar tool.
Step 3: After splitting, the piece is heated again and the drifters are driven into the holes.
Step 4: While continuing to drive the drifters into the workpiece, tap the sides of the workpiece until the drifters' holes reach the desired measurement.
Step 5: The heating process may take several times to obtain the desired shape.
For Wrapped Eye
Step 1: Fold the tomahawk into“U” shape.
Step 2: Insert Carbon bit and prepare for welding.
Step 3: Flux!
Step 4: Weld. Then, fuller and spread the tomahawk blade.
Step 5: Refine profile and the eye of the tomahawk.
Step 6: Draw length of tomahawk blade. Trim excess steel.
