Zenit-S is a Soviet small-format single-lens reflex camera, developed at the Krasnogorsk Mechanical Plant (KMZ) and mass-produced from 1955 to 1961. The second model under the Zenit brand.

The first Soviet single-lens reflex camera, the production of which amounted to hundreds of thousands (232,949 units)

"Zenit-S" is a modernized "Zenit" produced in 1952. Two significant changes have been made to the design:

a synchronization contact with a synchronization advance regulator has been added (the same as in the Zorki-S rangefinder camera). In this regard, the design of the shutter button and the film rewind button have been changed. There is no clip for mounting the flash on the camera; the flash must be placed on an additional removable bracket and connected to the sync contact with a cable;

The mirror lowering mechanism has been changed. Instead of a not very successful lever system, a miniature winch with a cord was used.

Otherwise, the design remains the same: a one-piece cast aluminum alloy body with a removable bottom cover, a viewfinder with frosted glass as a focusing screen and a non-removable pentaprism, the shutter is cocked and the film is rewinded by a rotating head. The bottom cover lock allows the use of two-cylinder cassettes that open when the chamber is locked.

The cameras were sold complete with the Industar-22 3.5/50 mm lens, and in the last years of production - with the Industar-50.
