Seller: Top-Rated Seller woolbothy (8.373) 100%, Location: Highlands, Scotland, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 254412757234 "Special Reserve" Collection Extra Soft & Fine Professionally Combed Shetland Wool/Fleece From Shetland Islands, Scotland, UK Natural Undyed Fawn - New Batch (Slight colour variation from batch to batch) 100g UK combined postage - Only £2.95 for as much wool as you like Shetland sheep are the classic British sheep for production of fine wool. It is most famous for its use in the knitting of gossamer lace (An entire shawl can pass through a wedding ring), as well as Fair Isle knitting. In my opinion, it knocks spots off Australian Merino and does not have a great big carbon footprint to boot. This item has been produced from a small flock in the Shetland Islands, Scotland, where we have a long history of producing fine wool and exclusive textiles. If you do not want to wait for the auction end, or if you need more than 100g, or for more colours, please see my Buy-it-Now listings. This fibre is from my "Special Reserve" collection (especially soft and fine). It is from the fleece which I selected as being the very best, the same as I use myself. This is the most beautiful wool I have ever had the joy to work with and I have a small amount left to share. Please do not confuse this wool with cheaper Shetland fleece that you can find on ebay, which can often be compacted, coarse and very dry. Not all Shetland fleece is equal! The perfect wool for spinning to cobweb yarn, for heirloom shawls and you will find a small quantity will go a very long way. However, I have spun heavier weights from this wool and it is still very much the ultimate woolly experience. All work develops the classic Shetland halo.Ideal for felting, from beginners to professionals. I am proud to say that textile artists, from around the world, have graced the walls of galleries with exhibits made from this fleece. Professionally scoured (washed), carded and combed at a small independent British mill. The fleece has not been over processed, so you may find a few occasional small fragments of hay in your fibre, similar to those found in many good quality commercial wool yarns. It is easy to pick out as you spin or felt. From a small Scottish flock of Shetland sheep, grazed on natural pasture and raised naturally. Shetland fleece is popular with spinners, weavers and felt makers, due to its ultra-soft, ultra-fine handle, delicate halo and great range of natural colours. Staple length 5cm-12cm (Wool Marketing Board). Quality 54's to 60's (Wool Marketing Board) . This auction is for 100g. Wool is a naturally absorbent fibre and its weight will change slightly, depending on humidity. Bidding starts from 1p. How can you resist such a bargain ? International buyers welcome.
