I am an EMF consultant. You can view my YouTube channel: EMF Safety Zone. I will tell you honestly and clearly, these two meters are the perfect combination for most any EMF detection you want to do! I don't want to bash other meters, but forget the Trifield meter or other meters that combine microwave, electric and magnetic field detection into a single meter. They are usually not very accurate and lacking in many ways too numerous to list. For affordable, accurate and portable meters, measuring all wireless devices, as well as low level EMF (electric and magnetic fields), these two meters cannot be beat! You can easily assist yourself and others in detecting various forms of EMF for healthier living.

Lets start with the Acousticom 2. I have purchased and used a number of RF/MW detectors. The Acousticom 2 is a perfect meter for anyone needing to discern their radio frequency exposure levels. And these days this is very important! Easy to use, accurate, well built, and very sensitive. The best feature is the audible sound, providing an acoustic representation proportional to the digital signal being measured. For example, a wireless internet modem has a very specific digital signature or sound when measured, and a cordless phone has a different sound signature. This meter discerns between these so you know what type of exposure you are dealing with in your environment, or even through the walls between apartments or offices! In addition, this meter will measure up to 8 Gigahertz which handles just about any modern wireless device in existence at this time.

The Acousticom 2

The Acousticom 2 is an easy to use, accurate, microwave RF measurement instrument which is ideal for carrying around. It uses the same advanced microwave detector as the more expensive Acoustimeter.

The Acousticom 2 was designed using the experience gained from many years of practical RF and microwave measurements. The advanced RF detector is the same as that used in the Acoustimeter. LED lights display the peak levels of microwave electromagnetic fields from 200 MHz up to over 8000 MHz (8 GHz), covering the frequencies used by most modern communication systems encountered in our everyday environment. This includes TETRA, all mobile phone systems including 4G/LTE, Smart Meters, and all WiFi and WiMax frequencies. The LEDs update rapidly, and allow you to quickly gauge the levels in an area and find any hot-spots. Its readout is sensitive to 0.01 V/m.

When first turned on the Acousticom 2 is silent. The sound may be turned on and off by pressing the button. The Acousticom 2 also has an "alarm" sounder which emits a pulsing warning at higher exposure levels. If the alarm is not required, then it is easy to disable it each time when you turn the Acousticom 2 on. The audible sounds allow you to determine, with a small amount of practice, what type of device is creating the pulsing microwave levels that are present. These features make the instrument the most useful and practical one available - even for people with severe electro-sensitivity.

What Do the Different LED Colors Mean?

The Peak Scale is based on personal experience of what electro-sensitive individuals have reported as adversely affecting their health. Below 0.05 V/m, few people report ill-effects, so these are green. Between 0.05 and 0.5 V/m, some individuals report ill-effects, so these are yellow. Above 0.5 V/m, nearly all electrosensitive individuals report experiencing adverse health effects, so these are red. The average scale uses orange LEDs. The manufacturer does not believe we presently know of a reasonable safe/not safe point that would allow the use more than one color here. They believe it is the "peak levels" that are most important as regards any biological effects.

Guarantee The Acousticom 2 comes with a 2 year return-to-base Manufacturer’s Guarantee. It is guaranteed to be free of manufacturing defects, but not against wear from normal use, nor damage caused by water or by physical impacts such as from dropping it. It has a degree of overload protection built-in, but it should not be used next to high powered RF transmitters that are likely to grossly overload the unit. Approach these with caution and watch the displays to avoid gross overload. ____________________________________________

The PF5 Pocket Power Frequencies Meter (ELF & VLF)

The PF5 is the newest power-frequencies detector from EMFields Solutions. The PF5 measures electric and magnetic EMFs from house wiring, including those from appliances at home at at work. The PF5, unlike most EMF meters on the market, also measures frequencies in the range from 20 Hz to well over 50 kHz. This enables the PF5 to measure the higher frequency electric and magnetic fields emitted by induction cooking hobs, solar-panel inverters, 'energy-saving' compact fluorescent (CFL) lamps and some LED lights.

These are among the most concerning new sources of our electromagnetic field exposures as the currents they induce in your body are proportional to the frequency. So a magnetic field at 25000 Hz (25 kHz) will induce 500 times more current in your body compared with same strength of field at 50 Hz. Induction hobs, in particular, induce some of the highest internal electric currents in your body in the VLF frequency range. Such currents have been shown to significantly affect the nervous system.

The PF5 is an easy to use, pocket sized, accurate, power-frequencies meter which is ideal for carrying around. It measures both electric and magnetic fields. T he PF5 power-frequencies meter was designed using 25 years experience of EMF measurements and research. Although some specialist meters also measure VLF frequencies, they tend to be expensive. The PF5 is an affordable meter that makes it easy to measure these new major sources of EMF exposure.

Induction hobs use VLF magnetic fields to induce high currents in iron and steel pans which then internally heat the metal. They are very energy-efficient, but some of the VLF fields leak out around the base of the pan and expose the person doing the cooking. A 2012 study that measured 16 induction hob units found that most could exceed even the very high ICNIRP levels [1]. Induction hobs can expose you to some of the highest exposures that most people will experience in their lives.

Not only can the PF5 measure those magnetic fields, but the PF5 can also measure VLF electric fields from other modern devices like energy saving CFL light bulbs. These electric fields can cause headaches and eye problems among other adverse health effects.

Most non-sine-wave solar power inverters generate high levels of VLF electric and magnetic fields that the PF5 can also measure while most power-frequency EMF meters will ignore them.

Easy to use

The PF5 Pocket Power Frequencies Meter comes complete with a quality pouch, including neat folded user notes.
Press the button once to activate the PF5. It will measure the magnetic fields and the right-hand scale is indicated by a green LED.

Press the button again to change to measuring electric fields. Each short press will cause it to swap between electrical and magnetic measurements. To turn it off, push and hold for about 2 seconds. It will also automatically switch itself off after about 5 minutes use to save the battery power. The internal electric field sensor antenna is inside the top end of the case. The large magnetic field coil is fairly central in the top half of the back of the instrument. Turn the PF5 for the highest reading.

The LED scales are easy to read and use and are color-coded for reasonable precautionary use. When two LEDs are both lit next to each other, then the exposure level is halfway between the two.
