This auction is for a Hutschenreuther porcelain portrait plaque, signed lower left "Wagner". A beautiful KPM quality hand painted miniature portrait of a semi-nude beauty, her shoulders framed by a cascade of flowing chestnut hair and a green shawl draped across her bosom. The workmanship is exceptional. She has really beautiful eyes. Styled after the Italian painter Angelo Asti (1847 - 1903), whose romantic portraitures of beautiful women were wildly popular at the turn of the century. This piece is the portraiture "La Pensee". The portrait is signed in the lower left "Wagner". There are several marks on the back of this piece. There is an impressed Hutschenreuther CMHR crown shield mark used between 1857 and 1899. There is another incised mark looks like 10. The P is over it making it hard to read. It has a partial paper stamp. I can only make out one word "Paulee". It has a faintly stamped "Germany" in blue next to the green stamp. It has a red number "15" and the word "Pensee". The frame measures approximately 5" wide, 6-1/4" tall and 1/2" deep. I am sure this frame is not original. Normally these are in elaborate Brass frames. The oval shaped Plaque measures 3-3/8" tall, 2-3/4" wide.
The plaque is in really good condition with only one flaw. On the left side of her hair is a tiny white line. Looks like a small scratch. It could be touched up but I'll leave that to the new owner. You can see it in the 7th photo on the left of the photo. This is an "As-Is" auction so please see all photos and feel free to ask questions.
