There were four distinct sizes in the hoard, this axe being the smallest.It is a strong and powerful small axe with a bold mouth detail..It is a type recorded from Flag Fen, where the seperate forehaft passes through the shaft, shown in photo 6.This reproduction has been used on several experimental archaeology projects where fine carpentry was required. The National Museum in Nuremberg has examples where the haft parts are turned on a lathe, like the oak reproduction I have shown.
