Detecting find, Lincolnshire.Square socket but with a round mouth. Broad strong loop. Original is a fine even-thickness casting. This axe shows a transition between the simple, short and plain Minster-types and the LBA longer and elegant opposed-crescent decorated axes. Probably an import from the Continent. This axe is the only one known with the bottom bar to the crescents and six pellets in two groups of three.Interestingly, though,no internal hafting ribs. The original Bronze Age owner, or the smith, has marked the blade edge with three light chop marks, twice. See top edge, first photo.A very rare form. The recent Havering Hoard has some similar axes but with less definition. Freepost UK. Overseas by Global Shipping prog. Condition: Moulds taken from the excellent condition original. The 485 Havering Hoard bronze artefacts, including socket axes of this type, will be on display in London during 2020, Colour: Bronze, Provenance: Moulds from Original, Material: Bronze, Type: LBA decorated axe
