This seldom found tool has been created on a flint flake. It has fine bifacial working with additional ultra fine retouches around the lateral edges. These types of tools were made during the so-called "Transitional Period". In Britain this period is known as the L-R-J (Lincombian-Ranisian-Jerzmanowician) a period that is contemporary with the Châtelperronian of France and Spain. It is believed that the so-called "transitional period" was a time when both Neanderthals and Anatomical Modern Humans coexisted, a period that lasted for around 5,000 years. By around 40,000 years it is it generally accepted that Neanderthals were out competed by Modern Humans in most but not all areas of Europe, however, some did hang on a little after c40,000 years in remote places.
