Cambs - 12.5 cm Description Date: Circa: 10,000 – 4,000 BC: Fen Edge Northern Cambridgeshire: Size: Length: 12.5 cm: Width: 1.5 cm Weight: 20.81 grams: This tool is thought to be a cutting tool and it is likely to be dated to the late Mesolithic to early Neolithic period: It appears to show a typology that has both Mesolithic and Neolithic flint knapping technologies: It is a very long primary flake [ similar to the smaller Mesolithic cutting lithic blades], taken from a large core: The upper surfaces have been radially reduced from the apex to the cutting edges: The cutting edges have been worked in detail and show good signs of secondary re-sharpening with a bone or wooden billet: The flint is a very dark brown to black colour tone and this may be suggestive of a Grimes Graves material from North Norfolk:Reference: Mesolithic Europe: Spikins. Bailey: Cambridge University Press: 2010: Condition: Extremely Fine and complete, which due to the brittle nature of the flint material, is extremely rare: Provenance: The flint was recovered by myself following a field walking area test, which took place over several days in 2015: The area investigated was along an ancient trackway running above the Fen-Edge in Northern Cambridgeshire: This area is thought to have been higher ground above the then, flooded Fen, which was an area of intense hunting activity in the Mesolithic / Neolithic and Bronze Ages: Several pieces of worked flint were located and it is likely that the area provided a seasonal hunting camp: Copyright Ancient Pasts | All rights reserved Shipping UK Royal Mail Special Delivery: International Royal Mail Tracked and Signed: Returns Available please contact us for Terms and Conditions: Payment We accept payment via Debit & Credit Card and PayPal.
