The statue apparently had been originally discovered around 1965 on the slope of a hill in the middle of a valley dominated by the Gendere Çay and Yarpuzlu Çay and surrounded by limestone hills. Topographically, this location is similar to that of Nevalı Çori. The figure may represent a female giving birth, and shows the same mythic, non-individualised features of the Gobekli 'movement'. Discovered at the end of the last century, and still being unearthed, Gobekli Tepe is revolutionizing our understanding of sophisticated hunter-gatherer-forager communities on the cusp of agriculture and settlement. A culture of hunting and animal shamanism, the culmination of traditions reaching back many millennia. The site's numerous monolithic pillars arranged in circles show a preoccupation with wild and dangerous creatures such as snake, vulture, hyena, and wild boar, with fabulous carved reliefs that are unparalleled anywhere in the world at this time. Gobekli Tepe was at the crossroads of the world in the 10th-8th millennia BC, until its complete and mysterious collapse, at which time the site was obliterated under hundreds of tons of backfilled rubble, raising many questions. Incredibly, parallels with the site's iconography and shamanic intent have survived to our own times, far away in Native American and Siberian cultures – perhaps not by coincidence. Measures approximately 14.5 cm tall (base included) x 5 cm (head) x 2 cm wide (wide points). Weight approximately 220 g. Frosted acrylic stand included. Since the piece is made to order there will be a slight variation in the appearance of the piece you receive from the one depicted. You receive a unique object, more like the original than a cast. Coated for protection. In addition, you can also receive (at no extra cost) a thirty-six thousand word monograph / companion guidebook, The Rise and Fall of Gobekli Tepe, a fully-referenced and illustrated document explaining the history and iconography of the site, along with its many satellite communities, from inception to collapse. This will be emailed as an 89-page PDF file. To receive this you must include your email address with your order!! UK postage, £6 1st class or £4.50, 2nd class signed for. International shipping, £16 by tracked and signed Royal Mail Airmail. Will combine postage for multiple items. Sent within 3 days. Customs or clearance charges or delivery duties that may be incurred are the buyer's responsibility. N.B! To prevent any chance of breakage in transit, the statuette is not fixed to the base. This is simple and you will receive tips on how to do it if needed. The piece also stands freely on its own and the acrylic base is included in the total cost. But if you do NOT want to receive the base, make an offer of £31 pounds sterling and you will receive the statuette by itself. Your questions or requests are welcome. If you are considering making an offer message me first. Thanks for looking! Provenance: Handmade, Colour: Limestone, Type: FIGURINE, Material: Clay
