This giant heavy cleaver has been created on a flint nodule core. It has been bifacially worked and consists of a superb angled cutting distal edge. The butt is fully worked with broad flat facets for the palm and natural cortical fossil holes for the fingers. The butt is weighted and very heavy. Just below the cutting edge is a deep natural concave notch, this probably served as a prizing leaver (opener) for extracting the marrow within large bones.
