Item:372990080871PICK with Use Wear on a Truncated Cylindrical Nodule Acheulian, Lower Palaeolithic Hampshire, England Approximately 10cm long. Made on a cylindrical flint nodule using a stone hammer to remove flakes from the distal end of one side only leading to the creation of a pointed pick like tip. The tip shows extensive battering through use wear. The proximal butt end has been purposefully truncated as seen in the last two photos. There are obvious percussion ripples on one of the flake removals as seen in the third photo. The flake scars are all well patinated with the same patination colours. As such it can be seen that the flakes were all removed at the same time in sequence. This reduction sequence is proof of the hominid origin of this ancient artefact. This is a genuine Lower Palaeolithic tool made & used by Homo heidelbergensis. PLEASE NOTE - a genuine English Lower Palaeolithic artefact will, with very few exceptions, have a patina on account of its great age. Supplied labelled with locality details. UK P&P £3.50p, Airmail Europe £14.25p, Airmail Rest of World (except Australia, New Zealand & Singapore) £18.50p, Airmail Australia, New Zealand & Singapore £19.25p.
