Item:324040374805SINGER 28k - or possibly 128k from 1929 - Serial No Y7030134 - so it's 91 years old & still in excellent condition! It was donated to our charity last week but it is a model we are not at present sending out to Africa, so I have cleaned it up and serviced it - and it can raise some cash to help cover our shipping expenses. It proves what many Singer collectors have maintained - that the Kilbowie factory used up whatever parts they had in stock at the time - so this machine is a bit of a mixture. It has the high mounted bobbin winder of the 128k, but not the automatic tension release when you lift the presser foot, and when it came to me it did not have a shuttle lifter either. However I have fitted a later shuttle carrier which does have a lifter button. And - the instruction manual that came with it is one for the Model 28k - and is dated 1928.The model was an improvement on the older VS3 machines which came out in 1885, and the Singer 128 was manufactured right up until 1969 - so most of our parents and grandparents used them - and now they are the most commonly found old Singer machine.Decals are in very good condition, although there is a little 'pin-rash' on the arm where a previous owner has used a cloth wrapping here as a pin-cushion, but the nickel plated end plate and rear access plate have lovely vine leaf decoration. Altogether I reckon the condition is a '9/10' on the Forsdyke scale. There are five bobbins, a pack of spare needles, a needle threader and as I say - an original 1928 instruction manual. The needles are System 705 or Singer 15x1 the same as your modern machine uses, and more bobbins are available here on eBay at about £1 each if you should need them. The wooden case is in excellent condition - and even has the original key. I have fitted four new rubber feet to the base so it won't scratch your best table! This would make an excellent present for a young teenager who wants to sew - as it's easy to understand exactly how the stitch is formed if you leave the front slide plate open a tad.It sews well. The little sewing test in the photo - on 3 layers of upholstery vinyl cloth - gives you an idea of its capabilities. It will sew through six layers of denim easily, with perfectly balanced tension top and bottom, and for travelling over thick seams the foot lifts to a good 8mm height. The start price - I have kept this very low because this is a sale for our charity - so I want it to attract lots of bids!If you are the winning bidder and you want any of the Singer attachments to go with it - just ASK and I will include them in the parcel if I have them in stock.I would rather not send it by courier - packing it up carefully takes a lot of care and effort - which is why the postage & packing charge is a bit more than some others charge. If I have to post it I will use UPS couriers as I have found they take good care of sewing machines. If it goes outside the UK then the eBay global shipping program will quote you a price according to your location. If you can collect from Stroud, GL5 and pay cash that would be best - just ask for an invoice minus the P&P charge. Then you could have a look at what other attachments & accessories I could supply.Proceeds to the charity I support - TFSR (Cymru).Condition:Used, Brand:SINGER, Type:Mechanical, Country/Region of Manufacture:United Kingdom
