Item:324033047137SINGER 306k - made in 1959 at Kilbowie. Please read the WHOLE of this description before you bid! This is one of the first series of Singer's domestic ZigZag machines. They started with the 206 - made at their German factory in 1938, and the concept is very much based on Swiss and German machines of the period. The 206 was followed by the 306 and the 319 - and some models used Singer's fashion cams to produce fancy embroidery stitches. However all were not available in the UK and USA until the 1950s.For copyright reasons Singer decided to use a needle, bobbin case and bobbin which are different from those used in their other machines. So the needles are 206x13, the bobbin case is similar to many industrial ones, and the bobbins are only 9mm thick - and are in fact just like the modern Brother 120.28.This machine was donated to our charity - but because of its non-standard features we decided not to send it out to Africa - as the particular consumables would probably not be available there. I took the project on and have rebuilt and serviced it because some Singer enthusiast is bound to want it. It is not pristine - but something different and a bit quirky. Hopefully it will raise a few pounds for the charity. The needle plate does not slide out like other models - although you can lift it off for cleaning underneath when the needle and foot have been removed. No - to get at the hook ring and bobbin case and the drop feed release screw - you have to tilt the whole machine back on its hinges. To prevent the whole thing toppling over backwards there is a bar under the back of the base which swings out to support it.The case and base are 1950s 'dealer' items which I found - a bit tatty but serviceable. The original fabric covering has long since disappeared so I have simply cleaned it up and repaired it and given it a couple of coats of shellac. So - what do you get for your money? - 5 metal bobbins, 2 packs of spare needles, an edge guide & bed screw, a double sided adjustable zipper foot, loads of printed instructions - oh - and a twin needle. The machine itself has - straight stitch, reverse feed, zig zag with adjustable width, dropping feed dogs, and the needle can be positioned centre, or left, or right. For your safety and peace of mind I have fitted a double pole in-line isolator switch - as the Singer motor is the wired-in type without a plug on the end of it. So you can switch it off when the grandchildren are around and you want to make a cup of tea!Auction with a low start price - and proceeds to the charity I support - TFSR (Cymru).I will ship via UPS - they seem to be the best for taking care with machines - or - you can collect from Gloucestershire, GL5 4AL.- just ask me for an invoice minus the postage. Sending it abroad will involve the eBay Global Shipping Programme - and they will quote you the cost automatically according to where you live. For more information or photos - please ask.
