Seller: Top-Rated Seller ludlowengland (5.920) 100%, Location: HISTORIC LUDLOW ENGLAND, Ships to: Worldwide, Item: 333454073266 This fabulous, rare "Todd's Champion of England" hand crank sewing machine was manufactured by the "The American Sewing Machine Company" of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA and retailed by "E. Todd" of London, England, established in 1863 the firm specialised in importing and badging machines. By 1882 it was operating from 8 Rose Street, London moving to 7 Ludgate Square, London between 1891 and 1895, where it remained until 1915. I believe "Edwin Todd was the manager of the London branch of the The American Sewing Machine Company". The machine has retained much of its' lovely original gilt decoration, however, there is some minor wear in places, particularly, to the edges of of the stand. The black japanning still has a good depth of colour, but there are some chips and small patches of loss, again, around the edges of the base and bed of the base. The casting to the superb feet, arms and base are still crisp and clean and there are no chips or cracks. The exposed metal work does show signs of surface blemishes in places. The semi-circular cloth plate is removed by a sprung lever underneath the plate, it is stamped with "Todd's Champion Of England. The writing is still clear and legible. The shuttle and bobbin are present and move in a semi-circular motion. The porcelain handle is free from any chips or cracks, but does have some crazing. The machine does turn with a good action. This stunning machine will grace any collection. Vintage ~ c1890 ~ "Todd's Champion Of England" Sewing Machine #80 Click images to enlarge Description THIS IS ON THE UK SITE AND LISTED IN GB POUNDS.
